Didja Know?

The title of this episode was inspired by the 1988 film Gorillas in the Mist, the true story of primatologist Dian Fossey's years in deepest Africa studying gorillas in their natural habitat. This episode's title changes the spelling of "Mist" to "Myst", presumably due to the popularity at the time of the first video game in the fantasy-oriented Myst series from 1993.

Didja Notice?

This episode is narrated by Danziger. He mentions that it opens on day 72 on the planet. He also remarks that they've been bunkering through the cold weather for 20-some days. But they've only been in the previously-abandoned camp since day 61 according to "Moon Cross"; that's only 11 days!

Alonzo has his hair cut shorter in this episode than in any of the previous.

The "ghost transmission" intercepted by the group's equipment at 7:08 on the DVD reveals that the woman's name is Dell Curry. Possibly she was named after the male basketball player of the NBA from 1986-2002, though there does not seem to be any connection between the two besides the name.

This episode reveals that True's mother was Eleanor "Elle" Moore, a technician and co-worker of Danziger's on the stations. The two never married. She has been in a coma since an accident while working in space to repair the station hull in 2183.

At 30:55 on the DVD, Devon is seen wearing what appears to be a wedding ring on her right hand. We never learned in the course of the series whether she was married to Uly's father, but this may be an indication that she was.

At 31:17 on the DVD, Julia gives her and Alonzo's coordinates to Morgan as 167 North, 28 West. Perhaps things are done differently in the future (or at least on G889), but on Earth the north-south coordinates on the globe only go up to +/- 90 degrees.
